DES | Wonder baby

For thirty years a synthetic estrogen is prescribed to pregnant women to prevent miscarriages. The estrogen called DES or diethylstilbestrol turned out to be harmful and to disrupt the development of the genitals in the fetus. Consequently millions of DES-daughters, whose mothers took DES during their pregnancy, experience later miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies and premature births themselves. Or they can't have children. In Belgium DES was prescribed from 1947 till 1977.

Elisabeth Broekaert visualizes and researches, together with journalist Greet Pluymers, almost anthropologically the impact of DES on three generations in the publication 'Wonderbaby?'
